The New Inn

The heritage railway attraction operates full-size steam and diesel passenger trains along the five and a half miles of line from Norden to Corfe Castle and down to the Victoria seaside town of Swanage. The line has stations at Corfe Castle and Harman’s Cross as well as a halt at Herston, on the outskirts of Swanage. There are refreshment buffets at Norden and Swanage stations with picnic tables at most of the stations so you can soak up the atmosphere.

Tyneham Village in Dorset has been deserted for over 60 years, since the second world war. Before that it was an idyllic countryside village, only a couple of miles from the sea and the delightful Worbarrow Bay. It had it's own school, church and post office, several farms and lots of cottages and the mansion called Tyneham House, or the Great House as it was known. Life for the villagers was idyllic and simple. There was no electricity or running water but it was still a lovely place to live, free from the trouble and strife of the outside world. All this changed just before the Christmas of 1943 when the villagers were told they must leave temporarily, however they have not been allowed to return to this day and the village of Tyneham has remained as if frozen in time for the last 60 years. The museum houses 300 military machines, representing the key battles of every major conflict since the First World War. Our moving exhibitions tell the story of this British invention; from the mud of the Somme to the beaches of Normandy and the deserts of Iraq – featuring powerful stories from the soldiers that fought in them.

We promise to make sure animal welfare is at the heart of every decision we make and we will always act in the animal’s best interest. We firmly believe that every animal deserves to live its life free from distress and pain and enjoy physical and psychological stimulation. Sadly, there are too many domestic pets being bred. This then leads to vast numbers of abandoned and unwanted animals being placed into care. Whilst in our centres, all animals live in facilities which are designed to offer a living environment that is suitable for their needs and enables them to act out their natural behaviour. All the animals are able to enjoy exercise and are provided with lots of enrichment activities. The rescue dogs get to socialise in off-lead groups, which can really help with their chance to be rehomed as they get used to other dogs.

Since its opening in 1987, Monkey World has rescued primates from all over the world, assisting 27 governments to date. In many cases, primates have ended up living thousands of miles from their native home range, having been smuggled from the wild. Most of the primates that live at Monkey World have been rescued from circumstances of abuse or neglect and, subsequently, suffer from a variety of physical and/or psychological health conditions..

The Blue Pool Nature Reserve & Tearooms forms part of the Furzebrook Estate which traces its history back nearly 400 years. Established in 1935 the Tearooms opened their doors to the public nearly 100 years ago! A collection of beautiful old buildings packed with art deco / art nouveau charm and set under a Canadian cedar shingle roof. The reserve represents a fragile environment which was recognised for its uniqueness and received protection from exploitation well before global ecological damage became a public concern.

We are excited to have David Langheim aboard to lead the green staff and bring his extensive knowledge and skills to the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club. David has over 37 years of experience in all aspects of modern course management/equipment and irrigation and is currently employed at Wimbledon Park Golf Club. In April 2012, David achieved the qualification of Master Greenkeeper status, being only the 61st Course Manager to be presented with this award worldwide. Currently, there are only 80 Master Greenkeepers worldwide. A very impressive achievement.

Rated in the TOP 150 English Courses, the Lakeland, Parkland and Woodland at “The Dorset” were designed by the prolific course designer Martin Hawtree. Hawtree has received international acclaim for his excellent work re-designing Royal Birkdale for the British Open and his more recent design of the 5 Star Trump International Links in Aberdeen for Donald Trump in Scotland. With these projects under his belt, Martin Hawtree is considered one of the best course designers in the world today having also added his touches to St Andrews when he redesigned holes on behalf of the R&A. This means in design terms, the courses here at “The Dorset” have a pedigree that is undeniable.

Bradle Farmhouse is a classic manor farmhouse offering bed & breakfast in a tranquil and beautiful valley situated 3 miles west of Corfe Castle, 2 miles from the Jurassic Coast at Kimmeridge and 5 miles south of the market town of Wareham known as the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck. Located in the heart of the Purbeck Hills, the farmhouse has stunning views across open fields to Corfe Castle. The original farmhouse is mentioned in the Doomsday Book but was destroyed by fire in the early 1800’s. The present house was built in 1862 of local Purbeck stone as a manor house for a member of Lord Eldon’s family before becoming the farmhouse in the early 1900’s.

More than a Bed and Breakfast, Kimmeridge Farmhouse is a classic country house offering a unique and relaxing retreat in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck.
